The Problem

Two crises.

Alberta Electrical Shortage

41 of 53 technical trade occupations in Alberta are forecast to be in shortage. Construction Electrician is specifically identified as at risk of undersupply through 2032.

📉

Youth Unemployment Crisis

Canada's youth unemployment hit a 15-year high of 14.6% in 2025. In Edmonton, the overall rate sits around 7.7%. Thousands of motivated people need a clear way in.

🎓

No Entry-Level Pathway

Trade schools take years and produce graduates who still need significant hand-holding on site. Companies need starters who can work — today. That's the gap VoltStart fills.

👩‍🔧

Women Underrepresented

Women make up only 8% of electricians in Alberta. VoltStart is woman-founded and actively recruits women who want a career in a trade that pays $43,000–$104,000+ a year.

About VoltStart

Built by a
journeyperson.
Run by a woman.

VoltStart Training and Placement was founded by a woman in business in Edmonton whose husband is a journeyman electrician. Together, they saw a gap that no one was filling: thousands of Albertans who want to work in the trades, and electrical companies who can't find anyone ready to start.

The curriculum was designed by a working journeyperson — based not on what looks good in a textbook, but on what employers actually need on day one.

VoltStart is proudly woman-led in a male-dominated industry — not to prove a point, but because that is exactly the leadership that a new generation of trades workers needs to see.
